Scope

Docs only: extends docs/rnbo-move-architecture.md with findings from reading Ableton's recovery image (Move-Image-2.1.1.img) and the RNBO Takeover package (rnbo-move-1.4.5-alpha.0.swu) offline. Nothing else is in this PR.

New sections:

  • Boot chain: pre-boot menu, Pi firmware, U-Boot 2022.01, A/B failover via bootcount, second-stage script, kernel
  • Partition layout (p1–p4) and how swupdate writes the inactive slot
  • Microcontrollers and firmware (XMOS, PMC, MHC, imagery), with the imagery bitmap format
  • Recovery via rpiboot, summarised from Ableton's PDF
  • How the Takeover .swu installs, and why third parties can't ship one (signature verified against /etc/swupdate/move-dev_publickey.pem)
  • Adding native apps through control-startup.json apps, and its catches
  • Relationship to Cycling74's pi-gen RNBO branches
  • How to repeat the teardown, plus new on-device diagnostics

Edits to existing text: the hardware intro now says CM4 and "several MCUs"; the approaches table gets a one-line pointer to the startup-app route.

Testing

Docs only, no behavior tests. Every new claim comes from files I read out of the image or the package. The one inference (Recovery holds nRPIBOOT low) is marked as unverified. The new diagnostics commands have not been run on a unit yet.

Impact Statement

  • Existing features: No expected impact
  • Public APIs / contracts: No expected impact
  • Schemas: No expected impact
  • Data / artifacts: No expected impact
  • Integrations: No expected impact
  • Mappings: No expected impact
  • Backward compatibility: No expected impact

Adds findings from an offline teardown of Move-Image-2.1.1.img and
rnbo-move-1.4.5-alpha.0.swu: U-Boot A/B failover, partition layout,
XMOS/PMC/MHC/imagery firmware, rpiboot recovery, how the Takeover .swu
installs and why third parties can't sign one, and adding native apps
through control-startup.json.
